Symptoms

Fatigue

Fatigue is a medical term to describe an overall feeling of tiredness or lack of energy. It is not simply feeling drowsy or sleepy, however, those symptoms may result from fatigue. Fatigue is when you have no motivation and no energy.

As we age, one of the leading contributors to fatigue is hormonal imbalances. If your fatigue doesn’t resolve with proper rest and nutrition, or you suspect it’s caused by an underlying physical or mental health condition, schedule a visit with Dr. Hong. We can help diagnose the cause of your fatigue and work with you to treat it.

Decreased Sex Drive Or Erectile Dysfunction

Changes in your hormone levels may decrease or eliminate your desire for sex and intimacy.

Women: During the transition into menopause, Estrogen levels drop making you less interested in sex and causing dry vaginal tissues, resulting in painful or uncomfortable sex. Although many women still have satisfying sex during menopause and beyond, some experience a lack or decreased desire during this hormonal change.

During your first hormone therapy consultation with Dr. Hong, he will discuss a personalized plan to turn these painful changes around and help bring your body into a healthy hormonal balance.

Men: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get or keep an erection firm enough to have sexual intercourse. It’s sometimes referred to as impotence, although we use this term less often now.

Most men have problems with their erections once in a while. Frequent ED, however, can be a sign of health problems, and you should see a doctor to find the cause.

An evaluation with Dr. Hong will help you discover if hormonal imbalance is the cause of ED. He will address this imbalance with hormone therapy to turn this emotionally painful experience around.

Fogging Thinking

Memory issues and general fogginess are a normal occurrence for both men and women as we age. They occur because your body is making less estrogen for women and testosterone for men. Dr. Hong can prescribe a personal hormonal therapy to easily reverse these memory problems.

Bone Density And Muscle Loss

Bone density and muscle mass are affected by both testosterone and estrogen, so both men and women can experience the loss of both as they age. Lower hormone production can also create thyroid or pituitary gland problems, increasing your risk of obesity, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease.

Disturbed Sleep, Night Sweats, or Hot Flashes

As menopause approaches, hormonal changes can affect sleep more than other time during a woman’s life. Hormonal changes can wreak havoc on sleep. In turn, sleep deprivation can affect hormone levels in a sleepless vicious cycle.

Dr. Hong says this type of sleep disorder is very treatable with bio-identical hormone therapy. A study presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists confirms that menopausal women with sleep problems due to hot flashes find significant relief from estrogen therapy.

Wrinkling, Sagging Skin or Hair Loss

During menopause, lower levels of estrogen advance the thinning, sagging, and wrinkling of our skin. This is due to the fact that estrogen increases collagen production and water content–two factors that keep our skin elastic and moist. Fortunately, with bioidentical hormone therapy, we can bring the hormones into balance and relieve these effects of aging.

Depression Mood Swings

Our hormones affect our brain neurohormones, and when they are out of balance, so are you. You may experience symptoms that change the way you think, feel, and make you more vulnerable to conditions like anxiety, depression, and even psychosis.

If hormone levels are left unchecked, you will never know the root cause of your emotional issues. A simple blood test with us will determine if your depression or anxiety is related to a hormonal imbalance.
